Why Yo Gotti Wears Large Chains

You would think that in today’s world of fashion, there would be few new ideas that rappers like Yo Gotti could bring to the table. But that is simply not the case at all. Yo Gotti is world-renowned for his unique display of chains along with the rest of his apparel. Rappers have been seen wearing chains before in the past, but the new Yo Gotti artist wears his tilted to the left in remembrance of his friends that have been locked up throughout the country. From his cousin Fred Fila in Florida, to his brother-in-law Travis-T in New Mexico, each chain represents a fallen soldier.

Yo Gotti’s chains represent the oppression that young black men have had to face on a daily basis. His motto is that if you try really hard, you can make those chains turn to gold. If you asked him, he’d surely tell you that the only real chains are in your mind. But for the real chains that bind men to cells and lives of affliction, Yo Gotti’s symbolism does little very little than make a change for men doing serious time in prison. Having been to jail numerous times for drug charges, Yo Gotti knows what it is like to be an innocent young black man accused of something that he did not do.

In the song, “Yo Gotti Bricks,” he clearly depicts his encounters in the drug trade as a poor way to live life. Now that Yo Gotti wears gaudy chains, it seems sort of ironic that he got the jewelry from perpetuating a stereotype. Yo Gotti can only really afford to rent his chains for video and photo shoots, which a lot of fading musicians have to do in the end. Maybe Yo Gotti will be able to coin this unique musical appeal and use it to help showcase his fashion skills as well.
