What Exercises to Do When You Are Unfit
Your fitness levels will control the type of exercises you do and will also affect its intensity. When you are a tad out of shape, you have to pick your exercises carefully to avoid burnout and to not hurt your self or your progress. 1. Walking
Walking is such a good exercise to start with if you are a bit out of shape. It allows you to gradually get into the whole exercise thing and you can do it any where, don’t even need a gym contract. Take your walking easy in the beginning and then gradually increase it as you go along.
2. Swimming
Swimming is an exercise that won’t even feel like an exercise – you will be having so much fun. Take it easy and start with a few laps in the beginning and gradually work it up to more. You can always buy some water weights and include some water weight training.
3. Light cardio
You can do any light cardio when you are a bit out of shape, just don’t take it up too much. Aim to get about 15-20 minutes of light cardio in and don’t increase the pace, the incline or the intensity up too much.
4. Light weight training
Build up the strength of your muscles by doing some free weight lifting. Start out with very light weights and gradually increase the weight load. Remember to do both the upper and the lower body. The adjustable dumbbell system are great for switching between mulitple weight loads with one dumbell system.
5. Pilates
Another great light intensity exercise is Pilates. It makes you more flexible and stronger and it firms the entire body. Look for classes near you or buy a Pilates machine or DVD.
If you implement these exercises into your daily life you will get fitter and fitter. And as you do, you can take the intensity and the weight loads up a notch. All you then have to do is to stay consistent and wait for your fitness levels to improve.
