Things You Need To Think About When Buying A Good Stair Gate

Many of those who are about to become parents purchase stair gates for their homes, and the same is true for parents of toddlers. When a house has more than one story, these gates are made to protect children from falling down the stairs. There are a lot of choices for a parent to consider, and there are also many questions they should ask when buying one of these safety gates. Their are various kinds of safety gates, and each one of them is different. While a few can be opened from the side, others might open in the middle. They come in metal, wood, or plastic. For stair gate safety, parents must be sure that the fasteners for the gate they want to purchase will hold strong, because many of them are easy for kids to figure out.

The next thing a parent needs to think about is the size of their new safety gate. The spaces that the gate has should not be so big enough that a child could get their head through it or stuck in it. Any gate that is purchased should be like this. When the gate is intended for a staircase, the area where it will be placed should be measured so that it will fit when it is put in.

New parents will also need to think about how the security gate they are buying will be installed. There are some that are put in semi-permanently, where they are screwed  into the wall by the stairway. This type of installation will take more time to do, but will ensure that the gate will not slip. For this type of installation, the stud will have to be located so that the new gate is safely secured to the wall. If this is not done, the safety gate might pull out of the wall very easily. When this type of gate is used on a stairs, it provides more stability. Other kinds are held in place by pressure, and they may be moved to other areas of the house very easily if that is needed.

These gates are usually made out metal, wood, or plastic. Finding out which one the parents will need to use will require them to do some research. If more stability is desired, metal is best, but if the child runs into it, they might get hurt. Plastic and wood is just a little less stable than metal, but if the child begins teething on the wood or plastic gate, it might not be good.

It is up to the parent to keep their child safe. If they do some research on types of gates, look around at what is available, and use good judgment, a stair gate safety will give you peace of mind.
