Spices are a big part of any home food preparer’s tool set.  There are many foods that do not taste good at all without some kind of seasoning, so serving food without having any spices to fall back on can sometimes be disastrous, especially if you are serving a lot of people.  Not only are spices necessary to make some foods palatable, but they can really enhance the flavor of things that already taste good.  Since there are so many different spices, it can be hard to organize them in a manner that you can easily access any individual one quickly and without much thought.

By putting a spice rack right in the place where you do all your cooking, you can grab one at will whenever you want.  In order to know what all the spices are, it is advised that you lay them on their side, so that the name of the spice on the cap is visible to you.  Of course, if the name is also present on the label, then you could use a spice rack where the contents are ordered vertically, but this also requires more space than the aforementioned method.  Whatever you choose to do, it is wise to have a spice rack of some sort in your kitchen.
