Electrolysis for Legs

You will rarely hear about anyone having electrolysis hair removal treatment on their legs. The reason is that, although it would result in the permanent removal of unwanted hair, electrolysis is such a slow painful process that it would take too long and prove too expensive for a large area such as the legs.

The fact is that with electrolysis, every hair has to be treated one at a time. The probe has to inserted into the follicle area and the current applied for a short time before moving onto the next one. Even if the probe targets the right area and the correct current is applied, which would normally kill the follicle, if the hair is not in an actively growing phase it will not be permanently affected and will grow again. This means repeated treatments on individual hairs are usually necessary.

With each hair taking a little bit of time to treat, it can take around fifteen minutes to deal with hair in the mustache area. Just imagine, then, how long it would take for the legs!

The fact is that there are faster methods for dealing with the larger areas of the body. The main method which can bring about a permanent reduction in hair growth is laser hair removal (although it cannot promise permanent removal of all hair). With this treatment, several hairs are treated with each pulse of laser or IPL light, there is no tricky probe to insert in just the right place and the whole of the legs can be treated in one session. There is the same problem of hair needing to be treated during the active growth phase however, but, generally, all hairs can be treated over the six to eight sessions that are part of a typical course of laser treatment.

Electrolysis is best kept for small areas like faces for females where the permanent removal of all hair is desirable no matter how long it takes. The only exception to this is if you buy a home electrolysis system. In that case, the legs are a great area to practice on before you attempt electrolysis yourself on more sensitive areas.
