Decorating Using Tropical Fish
One of the best décor ideas that doubles as a very interesting hobby is tropical fishtank aquariums. Putting together a fishtank has a learning curve to it, but if you do it right you will have a room with a great focal point to build off of.
First you’d have to decide the size of the tank you will want to look after. Remember these things are very heavy when they are filled up with water. Larger aquariums can weight several hundred pounds. If you’re just starting out it is probably wise to find a 20 gallon one or something near that size. If you are serious about this hobby you can spend a few hundred dollars easily. There are kits available that have all the basic items needed such as a filter pump, canopy light, heater, and a few other odds and ends. The tank itself is a decorating project all it’s own with various backgrounds available or you can make yourself. Bottom gravel is available in a wide variety of colors. There are all sorts of decorative items from natural rocks to man made items like sunken ships and treasure chests just to name a few. With a kit you will get some instructions but it is best to pick up a decent book on aquarium keeping and give it a good read. It’s not too difficult to get going but there are some simple controls to follow to keep your aquarium trouble free. Clean oxygenated water, correct temperature and lighting, and guarding against over feeding are the main factors to keep in check.
An aquarium by itself is a great decorating statement but you can also expand on it and create an entire theme for the room based around it. It really boils down to how far you want to take the idea. Tropical fish are very colourful with the lighting and water reflecting off of the walls and glass. Subtle colors in blue shades match well. Decorative items based on the ocean or sea fit well in the room. Shells and tropical pictures set off the room even more.
Give this hobby consideration if you like to decorate. You may be pleasantly surprised.
