Data Loss Prevention Tips

With the massive amounts of data we are able to store these days on all types of devices, iPhones, hard drives, usb drives, etc, we should definitely be taking extra precautions to ensure that data loss doesn’t happen.  Luckily there are USB data recovery programs that can help you to restore your lost data, but you don’t want to have to risk it and rely on one of those programs doing the job for you.  You should be taking extra precautions to be able to protect your data from being corrupted.  Accidents do happen, and sometimes hardware just fails, but if you can prevent it, then you should definitely try.

Since USB drives are meant to be plugged in to multiple computers, it is a good idea to make sure that there is sufficient virus scanning programs on each computer that you’ll be plugging your USB drive into.  You also need to make sure regular scans have been done, and that the virus definitions are up to date.  This can help stop malware and viruses from corrupting your USB data.

Another thing you should is to make sure that you do not eat or drink around your USB drive unless it is covered up with a cap.  Anything that you spill on there could cause an issue or cause it to become damaged.  Yes, you may be neat, but what if something accidentally gets spilled, then you’ll be out of luck.

Lastly, make sure that your USB drive isn’t around any extreme temperatures.  If left inside your car, especially if exposed to the sun, any plastic on it could melt, and the electronics inside could become severely damaged, even to a point of not being recoverable.

What it all boils down to is common sense.  If you take care of your USB drive, then you’ll be way less likely to lose any data or have it become damaged or corrupted.
